This NUST GPA calculator works out your semester GPA and cumulative CGPA using the National University of Sciences and Technology’s actual grading structure — not a generic 4.0 template. NUST’s grading system has a few real differences from most other Pakistani universities, covered below, and this tool accounts for them. It applies across NUST’s constituent schools and colleges, including SEECS, NBS, SCEE, EME, and others under the main NUST framework.
How NUST’s Grading System Actually Works
NUST uses a 4.00-point scale, but with two features that set it apart from most HEC-affiliated universities:
1. Only 8 letter grades — no A-, B-, or C-. Where most Pakistani universities use an 11-grade scale with “minus” grades in 0.33 increments, NUST’s official grade table uses these 8 grades in 0.50 increments:

2. NUST uses relative (curve-based) grading, not a fixed percentage-to-letter conversion. Your letter grade in a course depends on how the whole class performed, not a universal marks cutoff — so a raw score that earns an A in one course might land differently in another, depending on the class average that semester. This means there isn’t one single percentage band you can rely on across every course; it varies by class performance. A D grade is the minimum passing grade, and a student needs at least 1.0 grade points to earn credit for a course.
What’s the Minimum CGPA at NUST?
To meet degree requirements, undergraduate students generally need a minimum CGPA of 2.00. Some specific programs require a higher minimum of 2.50 — this applies to BBA, BS Economics, BS Public Administration, BS Mass Communication, BS Accounting & Finance, and BS Psychology. If you’re in one of these programs, use 2.50 as your benchmark, not 2.00.
For postgraduate students, the minimum CGPA to complete a degree is 3.00 for a Master’s and 3.50 for a PhD.

The NUST GPA Formula
GPA = Σ (Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ (Total Credit Hours)
This is sometimes called your “quality points” total, divided by your total credit hours for the semester.

How Credit Hours Affect Your NUST GPA
Every course carries a credit-hour weight, and that weight directly controls how much a single grade moves your GPA. A 3-credit-hour course affects your GPA roughly three times more than a 1-credit-hour course. This matters most in semesters with lab components or design/project courses, which often carry different credit loads than standard lecture courses — a low grade in a heavier course pulls your GPA down more than the same grade in a lighter one.

NUST GPA to Percentage Conversion
Several online tools cite a NUST-specific formula for converting CGPA to percentage. We were not able to confirm this formula directly against NUST’s official handbook, so rather than repeat an unverified number, we’d recommend confirming the exact conversion method with your NUST examination department or academic office directly — especially if you need the percentage figure for an official purpose like a scholarship, visa application, or job requirement, where accuracy matters. If your specific need is estimating your standing rather than an official document, the standard CGPA-to-percentage approach (CGPA ÷ 4 × 100) gives a rough estimate, though NUST’s own equivalence method may differ.
NUST Merit vs. GPA — Two Different Things
If you searched for “how to calculate NUST merit,” it’s worth clarifying: NUST merit usually refers to the aggregate score used for admission — based on your NUST Entrance Test (NET) result combined with your Matric/FSc or equivalent marks — and is a completely different calculation from your semester GPA once you’re enrolled. This calculator is built for currently enrolled students working out their semester and cumulative GPA, not for prospective students calculating their admission merit. If you’re applying to NUST, check the current year’s admission merit formula on NUST’s official admissions page, since HEC and NUST occasionally revise the weightage used.
